The whole concept of vaccines is that by letting the body practice on a weak or inert copy of a pathogen the immune system is then prepared for the real thing if it encounters it. These are known as 'attenuated' vaccines.

The theory being sold here is that if a cell can manufacture a corona virus per these instructions then the immune system will practice on that and there is no need to inject the actual pathogen.
