The Gotthard Base Tunnel is a railway tunnel through the alps in Switzerland. It opened on 1 June 2016, and full service began on 11 December 2016. With a route length of 57.09 km, it is the world's longest railway and deepest traffic tunnel and the first flat, low-level route through the alps. You know I can't really tell you who came to this or how any of then got invited or anything really about why an event such as this would be undertaken at the opening of a tunnel project, and like you I would feel just as embarrassed as you probably would to make any assumptions about it, but what I am not at all embarrassed to do is ask you what your explanation of this bizarre pagan ritual is.
Why do you think such an event was performed there. Do you think it is appropriate in some way? Is there some Swiss cultural observance i am completely ignorant of that could explain this? Seems like a public works project is a strange place to offer such a spectacle, and who was it really for? The people tho dug the tunnel? The people who financed it? I mean... Who watches this stuff and thinks oh that's just benign and artistic? It doesn't look all that entertaining to me.
